We are proud to announce the arrival of the latest addition to the ThoughtForm team. Nicole Wagner will add a strong degree of organization and expertise to the consultancy and its clients as Project Manager. She continues a career that spans more than a decade in retail design and project management. Read a bit about her background below.
Tell us a little bit about your background.
I have a degree in fashion merchandising, but I’ve never technically worked in the fashion industry. I studied fashion merchandising at Kent State because it was a big interest of mine. Through one of my professors at Kent, I actually ended up with an internship with the visual merchandising team at American Greetings in Cleveland. I fell in love with project management while merchandising greeting cards. After American Greetings, I worked as a Senior Agency Project Manager at IDL Worldwide.
What kind of things did you do in project management at a greeting card company?
I worked in retail design and experience. I managed seasonal and everyday signage programs, fixtures, displays, greeting cards, stationery, gift wrap etc. I liked it a lot! But my family is all in Pittsburgh. I had been there for about five years, and was ready to be back home near family.
Who’s currently on your work playlist?
That depends on my mood and what I need to get done. I have a very eclectic taste in music, I think I like pretty much everything. I sometimes prefer quieter stuff during work. Yesterday I was listening to the new Vampire Weekend EP and a folk band called Lord Huron. But I also appreciate the classics: Michael Jackson, Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, The Band, and Bob Dylan.
How do you stay organized while working in project management?
I’m a big to-do list person. Aside from the reminder app on my phone, I find it cathartic to cross stuff off on a real list, so I use a Moleskine Planner. I’m also a huge Microsoft Excel person. If I feel like I need a tool, I’ll try to figure out a way to make Excel do it for me. Building schedules and work plans helps my mind start to make sense of how everything is going to fit together.
And lastly, what brought you to ThoughtForm?
My colleague Laura Waxter recommended it. We were at IDL together, and she spoke so highly of ThoughtForm. She said “If they ever have an opening, you would be a great fit!” So ThoughtForm was always on my radar. Then the stars just aligned. I’m excited to get to work!
